Elections are held at the annual meeting each July.  A Nominating Committee chairperson and two members are appointed by the President of LLLPRD to serve for a month to 6 weeks before the election.

Water Quality Committee

Lead by Nick Grewe.
This committee is required to test and report on critical lake characteristics i.e. water clarity, phosphorus, chlorophyll, dissolved oxygen, etc.

The mission of the Lake Quality Committee is to preserve and protect Long Lake shoreland, habitat, water quality, and the quality of the fishery. As of the middle of 2013, there are four subcommittees, mostly volunteers, dedicated to helping to preserve the quality of Lower Long Lake. They are:

  • Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) subcommittee
  • Crayfish Monitoring subcommittee
  • Shoreland Restoration Green Team
  • Water Quality Subcommittee
  • Wetland Restoration and Preservation Subcommittee

Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Committee

Lead by Mark Edstrom.
Mark leads a team of lake monitors who are trained to annually survey the lake in search of invasive species.  Each volunteer has an area of the lake where they will pull up weeds from the lake bottom and identify and report their findings.
In addition, the Long Lake Inland Management District has purchased and installed a monitoring camera at the county park.  This camera is motion-activated and takes a video clip of each boat entering and leaving the lake.  We check to ensure boaters are following state law by not transporting aquatic plants from lake to lake to keep them from being introduced into Long Lake.
The district applies for the Clean Boats Clean Waters (CBCW) grant annually.  This grant allows the district to hire and train a monitor to educate boaters on invasive aquatic species.  The grant requires a minimum of 200 hours of active monitoring of boats.

    Fish Committee

Ty Bernicke works with the DNR fish biologist to monitor and improve the fish quality in the lake.

New volunteers are always welcome. Please email us via the Contact Us tab to learn how you can help.
